ABOUT THE ARTIST

Since painting is visual communication, a painting needs to work on that basis first. It has to pull and entice a viewer to enter it. If it does not, its other merits could be wasted.

My method is direct in approach (no sketching), and in application (color directly onto painting surface without brush or palette). By gestural strokes and marks, I wish to impart the freedom and sense of well-being that occur when I paint.

While the allusions and commentary in my work relate to present day culture and its rapid changes, the symbols I usually employ hearken to my background growing up in an ancient land. Arabic calligraphy and the very earliest alphabets from which it sprang fascinate and supply me with a rich iconography
